Coppola wastes his talents and Robin Williams provides more evidence against his in this embarassing comedy about a boy with an ageing disorder

It would be wrong to suggest that Coppola‘s giant talent declined in the mid-1990s but certainly on the evidence of this embarrassing disaster his desire (and need) for a commercial success saw a monumental lapse of taste, unworthy of one of the most significant figures in cinema.

The interesting premise is of a boy who ages at four times his actual age, so Jack (Williams) aged 10 looks 40 and seven years later is near death, as he makes his farewell speech at his school.

Part of the problem is the maudlin script, the rest is Williams‘, who - even by his own excruciatingly wilful standards - offers the nadir of 90s screen performance.   中文影评： 曾执导过《教父》、《现代启示录》、《对话》等大片的“电影教父"弗朗西斯．福特．科波拉一改以往风格，与大牌喜剧明星罗宾．威廉姆斯合作，拍摄了这部轻松而又严肃的通俗文艺片。 一开始出现的小宝宝　-真是超可爱…影片中年龄上的差距真的是太大了（大到了4倍）.想到10岁的年龄，40岁的身体机能／外表真！(可以想象40多岁的人装可爱的情形是多么的滑稽可笑!)剧情有着强烈对比：小朋友的未来很长但主角却已是老人…时间稍纵即逝在快结尾时身为毕业生代表的杰克(已是白发苍苍的老人)上台演说自身的感受勉励其他人的话语，也是使人既心酸又感动...也有着当事人的无奈心情，结尾下得很圆满。从头看至尾觉得罗宾威廉姆斯诠释的很完美…他内敛的演技～会令人陷入剧情中。虽然剧情不算有新意、拍摄手法也颇为平常，但欣赏几个演技明星的悠然演出也不失一种享受。   注：中英文影评是相互独立的，并不是互译！
