《独立日》是部典型的商业大片。庞大得夸张的外星族群进攻，美利坚的总统和科学家首当其冲担当起拯救人类的重任，成为举世瞩目的英雄。
优点：外星人大举侵略地球的桥段本来已无甚新意，但是在强劲的特技效果下，整部电影顿时可观性大增。整出电影高潮迭起，地球人和外星飞碟激战的场面着实教人看得过瘾，刺激异常。总而言之，全片带给观众的官能刺激一浪接一浪，令人有喘不过气的感受。
缺点：浓厚的大美国主义是本片的唯一大缺点，另外片尾计算机病毒救地球的办法也略嫌简单和儿喜了点。其余也没有什么错失。
